The 49th Edition of the Grand Maiori Carnival returns to town for the Spring 2023 edition! Many events are scheduled for May 6 - 7 - 13 and 14, in which Maiori will host live music performances, figurants, shows and the parades of the colorful floats. The first edition was officially born in 1971 and as many as 10 groups participated. The success was immediate: all the towns in the Divina were involved, and soon the event registered tens of thousands of spectators, becoming an important landmark among the region's events. Initially, there were no floats, replaced by entertaining theatrical performances on moving stages, with music and dancing. It wasn't until the mid-1970s that the first iron and papier-mâché floats appeared: even then they were made based on social themes and decorated by talented artisans. The parade of floats, however, is just one of the many typical events of the Grand Carnival of Maiori: this popular and folkloric event never lacks live music groups, a mask contest for the little ones and performances by dance groups. Read on to find out what's on the schedule this spring!

The 2023 Spring Edition

The Grand Carnival is now a regular event in Maiori, beloved by both locals and the many tourists who already flock to the Coast during this period. Also this year, prestigious guests from the Viareggio Carnival and the Palma Campania Carnival have been invited to the event. Among the most anticipated are Matteo Raciti artist, with the winning construction of the Viareggio Carnival, and Creazioni Silvano Bianchi, who returns with the work "Chi vuol esser lieto sia." The Historical Group Quadriglia degli Studenti of Palma Campania, then, will perform with live musicians and figurants dressed in beautiful costumes. In addition, the 50th edition and the theme of 2024 will be presented with the show by Opera Fiammae, with flamboyant and breathtaking choreography. Finally, there will be the colorful floats, which will parade on two magnificent days!

An event not to be missed!

The Spring Edition will come to life on May 6 at 7 p.m. at the amphitheater of Maiori's marina. On May 7, the floats will be displayed and will parade through the streets of the town in the afternoon.

The following weekend will see the presentation of the 50th edition (May 13) and the final parade (May 14), starting from the Capone waterfront and ending at the marina. For the occasion, on May 7 and 14, the fast ferry company Travelmar will add a run to Salerno (with stops in Cetara, Vietri and Salerno) departing at 8:30 p.m. from the marina in Maiori.

In short, it is indeed an event not to be missed! As the motto of the Gran Carnevale Maiorese states, "Put on your best smile and come to Maiori!"
