WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT THE AMALFI COAST IN SPRING
Spring is the best time of the year to visit the Amalfi Coast: ideal temperatures, the colors and scents of flowers, and the many Easter-related events will make your stay unforgettable!
by Roberta Cascone
The Amalfi Coast is for many the most beautiful stretch of coastline in Italy, and perhaps even in Europe. Along about 50 km there are villages such as Positano, Amalfi, Ravello and Vietri that have been a destination for a massive flow of tourists since the 19th century, thanks to the enormous beauty that characterizes the area. The Coast is literally taken by storm every year by mass tourism, especially in the so-called "high season," that is, from late June to August. This is precisely why Spring is the best season to visit the Coast: temperatures are ideal both for engaging in hiking trails and for the first dips in the sea, clubs reopen after the long winter break, and hotel and b&b prices are much cheaper. Here are a number of places and activities to indulge in on the Coast this very Spring!

Spring in Amalfi Coast
Shopping and cultural activities
Strolling through the steep and intricate streets of the Coastal villages is even more beautiful without the scorching heat and crowds of tourists in a hurry.
In Positano, you can indulge in shopping at the famous boutiques of handmade clothes and sandals that are numerous along the flower-filled and sweet-smelling alleys. A stop at the MAR-Museo Archeologico Romano's Roman Villa is a must: in the basement of the Church of Santa Maria Assunta you can admire structures and frescoes dating back two thousand years, when the Villa was buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD.
In Amalfi you can stress-free visit the Cathedral of St. Andrew, renowned for its impressive staircase, and then enjoy the world-famous sfogliatella Santarosa, a specialty of the Pansa pastry shop. Also, for lovers of handicrafts, a visit to the Paper Museum is ideal: here you can discover all the secrets of ancient papermaking or take part in exclusive tours with private guides.
Scenic views and nature trails
In springtime, the cities of the Coast are pervaded by the scent of orange blossoms, wisteria and many other plant species, tinging gardens with a thousand colors.
Among the most impressive (and by far the most Instagrammable) gardens are surely those of the famous Rufolo and Cimbrone villas in Ravello: here you can stroll through tree-lined avenues, surrounded by multicolored flower beds and blooming rose bushes, opening onto some of the most spectacular panoramic terraces on the coast, such as the Terrace of Infinity in Villa Cimbrone.
Spring is also the perfect time for trekking lovers: in April and May, in fact, walking the most famous hiking trails is an experience not to be missed. The Sentiero degli Dei (Path of the Gods) runs from Bomerano, a hamlet of Agerola, to Positano: it is a nature trail suitable for everyone, offering the most striking views of the Coast. Another trail that is fairly easy but full of steps is the Lemon Trail, which connects Maiori and Minori. From here you can observe the two towns from above, and enjoy homemade lemonades, sold by the very people who live along the path.
Easter events
Easter is a very heartfelt event on the Amalfi Coast. In Holy Week it is not difficult to come across ancient rites and processions during the Stations of the Cross, and of course it is also possible to enjoy traditional dishes, such as the pastiera or the Amalfitan sweet casatiello. One event in particular is very evocative: it is the procession of the Battenti, which takes place in Minori on Maundy Thursday and winds through the village with exciting and dramatic chants.
In short, spring is a special time to visit the Amalfi Coast: you absolutely cannot miss it!
