Among the fascinating destinations of South Italy the Amalfi Coast stands out for its clear waters and unforgettable sunsets. This holiday destination has a wild soul, and it is known for its iconic natural beauty, but also its history, art, and excellent Italian cuisine! Undoubtedly, you will fall in love with it!

The Amalfi Coast is a real dream place, just two hours away from Rome and about an hour away from Naples. You can get there using public or private transport and it is well-connected both from the airports and from the railway stations of these two cities.

Not even famous people can resist the charm of the Amalfi Coast and its 13 municipalities,

recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997: it is a dream destination for tourists from all over the world. Very famous is the Amalfi Drive, the road that with its countless curves offers the spectacular view of unique panoramas: with the crystalline sea on one side and the mountains on the other, it will lead you among lemon terraces and olive plantations, from Salerno to the unmissable coastal destinations. Vietri sul Mare, Maiori, Minori, Amalfi, and the romantic Positano, are key stops not only for those arriving in Italy from abroad but also for the inhabitants themselves of this lovely country.

What to see on the Amalfi Coast

First things first, once on the Amalfi Coast, go and admire the breathtaking views that this little corner of Paradise offers. Whatever your first destination is, you will be surrounded by a magnificent crystalline sea that reflects the warm rays of the sun: an exclusive view, enriched by the vivid contrast created by the many white boats moored offshore, not to mention the fascinating indented coast in the background, which so much identifies this place. It resembles the most beautiful of postcards!
While strolling through the characteristic alleys of these places, you will experience the true "Dolce Vita" style: the beauty that surrounds you will make you feel like in a movie set, and all the directors that have chosen these locations to shoot many films, TV series, and music videos are well aware of this!

The cradle of the Dolce Vita

During your holidays, you can’t help but jump into the Italian lifestyle mood!
Whether you prefer to sunbathe at beaches or want to go for a shopping spree, the Amalfi Coast has everything you are looking for. Among the beautiful ceramics to buy as souvenirs, the stylish clothes of Positano Fashion, the many typical products, and the sightseeing tours, every moment will be unforgettable. The lunches by the sea or in the typical restaurants, followed by a coffee or limoncello sitting at a table in the square; a cocktail or a glass of wine to end the dinner at one of the many panoramic terraces, could be enough to have an idea of what โ€‹โ€‹the most glamorous Italian holiday is. But that's not all, the Amalfi Coast has so much more to offer!

In Amalfi, it will be hard not to fall in love with the magnificent Cathedral and its spectacular stairways; as well as you will be amazed by the pastel-colored vertical houses, while your ferry approaches the coast of Positano from the sea. Also, for trekking lovers, here there are some of the most beautiful itineraries in Italy: the Path of the Gods, from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view, the very fragrant Path of Lemons, or the path to reach the enchanting Valle delle Ferriere.

But how do you get to the Amalfi Coast? Don't worry, it's really easy!

How to reach the Amalfi Coast from Rome in 2 hours

  • From Fiumicino airport, you can reach Roma Termini station with the train Leonardo Express;
  • From Ciampino airport, you can reach Roma Tiburtina station either by shuttle bus or by taxi;
  • From both the railway stations of Rome, you can take a fast train to Salerno (the journey takes just over an hour);
  • Once in Salerno, reach the Molo Concordia (in front of the station) and board the ferry for the desired destination.

By choosing Travelmar fast ferries, it is possible to reach the most beautiful coastal cities directly by the sea. The tickets can be purchased in advance online, even in the multi-travel option to visit multiple cities on the same day, or directly at the ticket offices at each pier of its destinations: Salerno, Vietri sul Mare, Cetara, Maiori, Minori, Amalfi, and Positano. By picking this means of transport, you will see the picturesque towns approach gradually in all their colorful beauty: an unforgettable emotion!

There are also direct buses to reach the coastal towns, but in summer the fastest method is to go by sea.

How to reach the Amalfi Coast from Naples in 1 hour

  • From Capodichino airport, there is a shuttle that takes about 15 minutes to reach the Central Station of Naples;
  • From Naples Central Station, choose a train to Salerno (which takes about 50 minutes);
  • From Salerno, continue by sea, choosing a fast ferry departing from Molo Concordia, a few minutes from the station.

What is the best way to get to the Amalfi Coast?

The city which is best connected with the Amalfi Coast is Salerno, from which it is possible to move both by land and by sea, thanks to Travelmar's fast ferries. This area, especially in summer, is a popular destination not only for many tourists but also for locals. The consequence is that the roads are very busy, and you risk being stuck in traffic for a long time, taking away precious time from your holiday. For this reason, I recommend preferring the Travelmar ferries, which not only represent the faster way to get to your destination but also offer a more suggestive arrival at the destination, thanks to the view of the fantastic panoramas. Last but not least, the chance to enjoy the journey outdoors with the wind in your hair is much more relaxing, especially in the hot summers of southern Italy.

During your holiday on the Amalfi Coast, there are so many activities to do and places to visit. It's up to you to decide what to give priority to, but if you need some advice, don't hesitate to consult our numerous itineraries!

  • Train tickets can be purchased directly at the station, but it is much cheaper to get them online where, if booked in advance, you can also get excellent discounts
    Trenitalia and ItaloTreno
  • A useful tip is to foresee any delays (in case you arrive in Rome on a flight) and to choose rates that allow changes to the ticket in case you want to anticipate or postpone the departure.
  • The ferry service is generally active from April to October, for more info consult the website www.travelmar.it
