Shopping in Amalfi Coast
Handicraft and fashion: the uniqueness of the Amalfi Coast
All the craftsmanship lovers know that they will buy valuable decorative items at Vietri sul Mare, one of the most beautiful coastal towns. The city is known for its colorful ceramics, and it also hosts many workshops producing tableware, tiles, and souvenirs that are exported all over the world. Their particularity is guaranteed by the use of ancient techniques, such as the use of the lathe, the processing and the decoration by hand, combined with the more modern techniques, which instead guarantee their durability in time.
You will be so enthralled with the cheerful stylized design that, once you return home from your holiday, you will display them right away. It will be a real touch of liveliness, all made in Italy!
Anyway, the local craft is not limited to ceramics. The Amalfi Coast is full of street artists and art galleries, where you can buy fantastic paintings, perhaps representing the most beautiful and iconic places of your stay on the Divine Coast. Once back at home, admiring them will certainly warm your heart.
In Amalfi, instead, you can buy something else really special: the city is famous for the production of handmade paper, formerly made from rags and fabrics, with which diaries, notebooks, bookmarks, prints, and many other items of stationery are still created today. Inside these ancient shops, you can also find polychrome inks and customized sealing wax stamps.
Maiori's specialty, on the other hand, is the creation of handcrafted sandals: it will be really difficult to choose just one pair! The shoes are handmade, and it is also possible to have them tailor-made, selecting their decorations and components. There is nothing more exclusive!
If you are interested in coral, indeed, I suggest you take a trip to Ravello. In addition to visiting the very special museum, which houses approximately 600 art objects, including the peculiar 17th century “Christ on a crystal cross” (“Cristo su una croce in cristallo”), you can stop at the adjacent shop, where you will find unique pieces available for sale.
However, the real shopping center on the Divine Coast is Positano. Its boutiques, rich in bright colors and precious fabrics, make this unmissable city even more cheerful and lively. The "Moda Mare Positano" (the Positano fashion style) is highly esteemed and renowned far beyond the Campania borders. Already in vogue in the 1950s, it was much appreciated by well-known personalities such as Jackie Kennedy and Brigitte Bardot, who loved, among other things, the handcrafted sandals proposed by local artisans, thus inspiring women from all over the world.
Even today many tourists come to grab at least one of these trendy pieces: a bathing suit, a sundress, a linen dress, a beautiful beach hat, or a pair of custom-made sandals.
I assure you that in Positano you will do the best shopping of your life!
Not only fashion and ceramics: typical products of Campania cuisine
Shopping on the Amalfi Coast extends to all fields: the typical products of local cuisine are also highly appreciated by tourists.
In Cetara, for example, you will find the famous anchovy sauce, obtained from the fermentation of the anchovies themselves, put to marinate. This procedure gives it a very particular and decisive flavor.
In Minori, you can satisfy your craving for sweets by tasting delicious cakes, such as the Delizia al limone (lemon delight) or the Ricotta and pear cake. Also, you can take home typical sweets such as a jar of babà, a panettone, or the many other packages of irresistible delicacies, to share with friends and family.
The wine lovers should go to Furore, famous for its fjord, where it is possible to stop in the Winery Marisa Cuomo. Here, in addition to a wine tasting, you can buy some bottles to use as a gift once you return home.
Also, choose as a souvenir of the enchanting Coast: packages of pasta or fragrant lemons, the limoncello, digestive par excellence of every local dinner, and the traditional Concerto liqueur, typical of Tramonti. These are classic gifts that never go out of fashion!
Colors, smell, and flavors: this wonderful land has everything you wish for. Make the most of your shopping experience!
